Postmodernism encourages to disbelieve in meta-narratives or in an absolute truth that can possibly be shared by everyone. Now we live in a world where there is no 'truth' that either determines what we believe or any final goal that we can arrive at. Hence there is no final project or aim. We live in a kind of pluralism where everything is right and everything is wrong simultaneously. This skepticism started with existentialism which taught that truth may vary according to the subjective elements of the individuals. From a modernistic point of view there can be only one truth. For example, if 'A killed B', there is only one truth. That is, 'A killed B'.
There is only one truth according to the movie ‘The State of Play’. That is, militarism that goes hand in hand with politics tends to steal public money in one way or the other. This was intensified to an incompherensible stage in the post 9/11 psycho-phobia in the USA. When money comes to the scene, even the most beloved relationships become tangible and fragile. What matters is money and nothing else. That stands as a singular truth against the so called plurality in the postmodern age. This investigative journalists acts as a modernist who believes in what he observes through his skilled journalistic eyes. He can still distinguish ‘truth’ from ‘bullshit’ and believes in a readership who can do the same instead of being obedient to corrupt politicians and military Lords. He fulfills his universal responsibility to tell the truth to his readership no matter what difficulties he encounters in that hard way. So called 'people' care only for their survival (especially after 9/11 catastrophe) whereas they are the ones who should actually look for the real culprits. Not that 'they do not know' but continue their negligence nevertheless.
Russell Crow at his best.
